The House and Garden

A Brief History of the House.

Mellington House
Mellington House was built in the late 17th Century and The Hayloft and The Old Stable originate from the mid 16th Century. The grate in the Dining room is dated 1635 but it is thought this was obtained from Millington House located in the centre of the village and burnt down in the great fire of Weobley in 1943. Mellington House was once an inn called the Rising Sun and was later named Sunnyside. The Queen Anne frontage was added in 1926 and the house has been named Mellington House since 1972. During the last century, Mellington House was the residence of two successive local doctors and was where they also had their surgery. The house was also once the residence of Susan Wilberforce, (Baroness de Stempel) the great-great-grand-daughter of the world famous MP William Wilberforce.
